Saturn's gravity affects the orbits of many objects in space besides its satellites and rings. Some comets moving through the solar system are pulled closer to Saturn by the planet's gravity. One of them is Chiron. Chiron is the largest known comet. It was once thought to be an asteroid. Chiron orbits the Sun along a path between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus. Scientists think that in a million years, when Chiron's orbit takes it close to Saturn, Saturn's gravity will change Chiron's orbit. The change will send it out of the solar system. The asteroid 5145 Pholus is another body affected by Saturn's gravitational pull. It orbits just inside Saturn's orbit.
